Germans and aeroplane

Dan brought his 3D printer, his electric plane and a couple of German men who were working with him.
John came too. Julian wrote a program to convert Dan's accelerometer values into a graph.
We made a strange cover for the accelerometer on the plane using the 3D printer.

Electronics

5th September. There were 7 of us. Dan tried to get an arduino to data-log an accelerometer to put on his radio controlled plane. But at the end of the session he still hadn't done it!
Next meeting 19th September. Come and bring something to make, or just pop in for a chat.

Strimmer and Dinner

It looked like we were going to descend to the level of doing programming on our computers, until Phil brought a strimmer for us to fix and we took it outside and got it working. We then met up with Malvern Web Tech and went for a curry at Paprika in Malvern Link.

Mike

Dan couldn't make it along this time due to other commitments so it was just Chris and John initially. We chatted for a while with Jon from the Youth Centre about publicity for future Hackspaces and about some old video and music technology they were thinking about disposing of. We looked up some secondhand values on Ebay so it may be possible to bring in some funds for Malvern Youth Centre if someone has the spare time to list some of this kit. A little while later Mike from Malvern LUG came along and showed us his little netbook and an external USB LCD display. We talked about machining techniques for making bushings for a small gymbal rig including using a milling machine as a vertical lathe essentially and the possibility of making a form tool for more traditional lathe operation. We concluded with Malvern LUG inviting Malvern Hackspace to a curry in Paprika in Malvern Link at 8pm on the 27th June, after the next Hackspace that is.

Electronics

I set myself the challenge of trying out my ADXL335 3-axis accelerometer, which I'd bought recently.
John helped me by doing the soldering. Chris gave me a connector. I found the software online. We got it writing a list of numbers, but I didn't successfully get it rotating a cube picture, like I'd wanted. We got distracted by going outside and playing with John's air powered Top Gear rocket.

The Rocket

Chris brought his rocket in. John seemed to be converted to rocketry. A guy called Rob brought his child who did some hand prints on black paper. Dan made another of his paper planes.

Boomerangs

At this meeting we made boomerangs. Chris brought some plywood, a jig saw, and a sanding machine.
We each had a boomerang made after about half an hour.
We went outside and flew them. John's first attempt was the best. ( warning video contains mild swearing ).
Some of us tried to improve the boomerangs by adding small weights, but Chris's broke when it landed on a hard surface.
